Apathy

Apathy is a pervasive trend in our society, a trend that is dangerous to the very foundations of our democratically elected and governed society where we live. We are lucky to have a vote. It does not cost anything, and it takes a relatively small amount to make an informed decision that can make a difference.

November 19^th is municipal/civic Election Day. On average, civic elections have the lowest turnout of the other levels of government. Sure, it is not as glamorous as federal elections, nor does it have the huge amounts of production and money involved. What civic elections do have, however, is heart and hope. There are new ideas and approaches from the individual opposed from the team of experts and those who are being minded by their party handlers. These people, who become elected through civic elections, become responsible for things that effect everyday life – transportation services like buses, bylaws, parks and recreation, how the city or town would look, and taxes .These are not abstract ideas, they are concrete and local and effect people everyday.

Handfuls, and even single votes, have been known to be the deciding factor on factors that are directly applicable to you. Take the time, make the decision and join the movement to get our voices heard.
